When EMDI Institute of Event Management was founded in 2002, we did so because we identified an acute shortage of trained workforce in the field. We spoke to industry stalwarts in Event Management and attempted to understand their needs. Curricula were structured to meet these industry defined needs, and lectures were largely delivered by industry practitioners themselves.
Today, EMDI alumni are in middle and senior management positions at virtually every event management company of repute. They study the craft in classrooms, train on events, and finally intern with and get placed with Event Management companies.Four years ago, a new trend emerged: our Event Management students were sought after by Public Relations companies.
The interdependence of Events and PR was growing, and students with a background in Events were more than a useful asset in the PR industry. This trend led us first to explore, and then establish, a full time course in Event Management and Public Relations (PGDEMPR). Our PGDEMPR alumni are now found in virtually every leading PR firm - a testament to the relevance of our curriculum.
Our quest for growth through innovation has continued. Two years ago, we tracked the impending boom in the radio industry, and we identified radio as a new option for the young, aspiring students. Interactions with the industry understanding of their imperatives, lead to the evolution of the course in Radio Jockeying and Programming. Today, we are proud to say, our alumni work with the major players in the industry - Big FM, Radio Mirchi, Radio City, Fever, Radio Indigo, Red FM - you name the Radio Station , and you’re likely to come across an EMDI student. Last year, as we looked around the media landscape, we spotted another emerging trend - an acute shortage of candidates in the Advertising and Communication space. With a handful of educational institutes offering courses in this vertical, and, taking into account industry needs, we launched a two-year full time course to bridge the gap.
The course, named Post Graduate Diploma in Advertising and Communication (PGDAC), we are confident, will follow the standards set by us with our earlier courses and will ensure that our students are Winners in the field. The growth in our bouquet of offerings has been complemented with geographical growth. EMDI courses are now offered at Centres in Mumbai (Bandra, Vashi, & Jai Hind College) and across centres in India (Pune, Bangalore) with setups being established in Delhi and Calcutta. Internationally EMDI has its branch at Dubai Knowledge Village, a hub for education in the Middle East.
What began as a EMDI Institute of Event Management, today no longer represents the Institute and the name is narrower than its canvas. With courses in event management, public relations, radio, advertising, wedding planning, journalism and communication, we are now EMDI Institute of Media and Communication; under the umbrella of Greycells Ent. Ltd - a Company listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange Limited (BSE).
